Super Summer

Yeah, it’s been a super summer. I’ve never been so sick in my life—literally. Oh, I’ve had flu, colds, infections, the works before but this time some strain of bug (?) food poisoning (?) really threw me for a loop. A big hula hoop loop! In the prone position for almost two weeks, I could barely reach for the phone sitting beside my pillow. Visions of past loved ones appeared on my bedroom wall like a “This is Your Life” episode. Was I near death? My body lost nearly all its fluids and my doctor called the ambulance when I finally crawled into his office. ¬†(Driving myself was one of the hardest things ever!–sheer willpower was the only way I made it!) The transport arrived five minutes later, the EMT pricking me with needles to start an IV in my lower arm. I cried for my sister, which was useless, since she lives on the other side of the world. ¬†Questions were gently asked as I took deep breaths to calm myself.

“Any travel within the last six weeks? ”

A fresh wave of tears spilled out as I said, ‘Yes”. It was to see my sister in Hawaii. Oh! How I wished I was back there at that moment!

Soon, I was whisked into a room at the ER to lay around, wait for the fluids to invade my bloodstream bringing life-giving water. I began to feel much better right away. My body was thanking me for finally listening and responding to its need.
